Special Crystal Mount for high power
applications
--- clear annodized, flexible and no glue!
In nonlinear optical conversion processes where high power laser sources
are involved. It is essential to avoid the use of glue or double sticky
tape. Also, the use of glue and sticky tape means that you can not easily
take out the crystals for cleaning or repolishing. On the other hand, without
glue or double sticky tape, the mounting of nonlinear optical crystals
still has to be very secure and stable and, at the same time, protect the
crystal from chipping or cracking.
The special crystal mount presented here addresses such concerns.
Features
-
Clear annodize that minimizes blast under intense laser power
The
clear annodize is an essential design in laser devices that handles high
laser power.
-
Compression spring design that provides restraint yet steady holding force
on the crystal
This
design is much superior to the setscrew design where the pressure of the
set screw is very unpredictable and often result in crystal chipping and
damage.
-
Stable mounting direction that minimize the movement of crystal in the
sensitive direction
The
mount minimizes the crystal movement in the sensitive direction that the
crystal will not move during cleaning with air duster or minor shock during
transportation.
- Indexed version provide resettable angular precision down to 5micron radian
The BSHG-UV system's computer control function (optional) allows for
automatic tuning and scanning without the need to change filters, optics,
or crystals.
Designed for:
-
All OPO/OPGs pumped at 355nm/532nm, ns/ps.
(e.g. CASIX BBO-3B I or BBO-3B
II OPOs)
-
All ns/ps pulsed dye lasers working
in the visible/near IR region.
Modular Structures:
For flexibility, BSHG-UV is offered in modular structures:
-
The basic structure of the BSHG-UV is the
counter rotating crystal stage. This crystal stage could host 2 BBO crystals
at the same time.
-
CASIX offer 3 BBO crystals, cut at different
angles, to cover the UV range from 205nm to 440nm. These 3 BBO crystals
are: Short-UV(205nm to 225nm, cut at 77กใC),
Medium-UV (220nm to 290nm, cut at 55กใC)
and Long-UV (280nm to 450nm, cut at 35กใC).
These crystals are specially chosen and are the best combination to cover
the widest UV range possible with the minimum cost. One could pick up either
two of them to selectively cover the UV range of interest. Or one could
use just one crystal at a time to lower cost, in this case a UV fused silica
compensation block is recommended to compensate for the optical displacement.
-
The Polarization Rotation Prism pair could
rotate the horizontally polarized input into a vertically polarized input
(required).
-
A 4 Pellin-Brocca Prism pair or a rotaing
single piece Pellin Proca Prism assembly separates the UV from the fundamental,
at the same time, keeps the beam position and beam pointing direction fixed.
Specifications
Tuning range:
3 BBO crystals double 410nm ~ 900nm, generate UV 205nm ~ 450nm.
Short-UV(205nm to 225nm), Medium-UV(220nm to 290nm) and Long-UV (280nm
to 450nm).
Doubling Efficiency:
Depends on the beam quality and intensity of the input beam. Tight
focusing with lens is not recommended by CASIX to increase intensity. Please
check CASIX's C-Doubler for doubling weak
(<50MW/cm2), and highly diverging(>1.5mrad) beams.
Input Polarization:
Vertical (default) or Horizontal (polarization rotation prism pair required)
Output Polarization:
Horizontal, 100:1 (For >105:1, use CASIX a-BBO UV polarizer).
Input Beam diameter:
6mm or less (nominal), larger aperture is possible as an option.

dimensions are in inches, unless otherwise specified)
Customer design are always available.
BMIX-UV
The BMIX-UV system uses two BBO crystals. First, it doubles the
input from an OPO/Dye laser to generate UV from 230nm to 270nm, and then
mix the UV with the 1064nm from a Nd:YAG laser to generate UV from 189nm
to 227nm. The BMIX-UV is the best choice for narrow bandwidth OPOs from
Spectra-Physics and Continuum, where the directly doubled
UV only covers >220nm.

Modular Structures:
For flexibility, BMIX-UV is offered in modular structures:
-
The basic structure of the BMIX-UV is the
rotating crystal stage. This crystal stage could host 2 BBO crystals at
the same time.
-
CASIX offer 2 BBO crystals, cut at different
angles, to cover the UV range from 189nm to 230nm. The first BBO crystal
(Medium UV) will double the 460nm to 550nm input to UV covering 230nm to
290nm, one could spare this crystal if 230nm to 290nm UV is already available
from other doublers. The second BBO crystal (Deep UV, cut at 55กใC,
will mix the 230nm to 290nm with the 1064nm, to generates 189nm to 227nm.
-
The Polarization Rotation Prism + dichroic
mirror could control the polarizations of the UV/Visible and 1064nm input
such that 1064nm and UV input become vertically polarized, while the Visible
input becomes horizontally polarized. The output will be horizontally polarized.
-
The 4 Pellin-Brocca Prism pair separates the
UV from the fundamental, at the same time, keeps the beam position and
beam pointing direction fixed.
